Speedy, a friendly and intelligent mouse, hosts the program and guides children through the tale, inviting them to participate in fun games that transform them into characters in the story.
In the Games Center of The Ugly Duckling, children will find hours of entertainment. There are jigsaw puzzles, a shooting gallery, word games
and the ability to create their own version of the story.

Every word in the Dictionary has its own screen with the following
options:
Crosswords
On each screen there are blank spaces to place letters and form words. The child has to figure out what the words are and fill in the blanks. He can also choose the level of difficulty he wants.
The beginning level gives a question mark. When the question mark is clicked, clues are given to help discover the word.
The intermediate level gives a question mark. When the question mark is clicked, Speedy says the meaning of the word.
The advanced level gives a question mark. When the question mark is
clicked, Speedy says the meaning of the word.

Dictation
In this game, Speedy dictates a series of words which the child must write. There are three levels of difficulty. The beginning level gives an illustration of the meaning of the word along with its spelling. The intermediate level only gives the illustration and the advanced level has no clues, so careful attention must be payed to Speedy's dictation.

Shooting Gallery
In this game, the child controls a hunter, with the arrow keys to move him and the space bar to shoot. The Hunter must shoot at balloons that appear and disappear in the sky. As the game progresses, balloons appear and disappear more rapidly. The score is kept by awarding a trophy at the end of the game.
Jigsaw Puzzles
The games begin with a completed image which then breaks apart into pieces that the child must reassemble. There are three levels of difficulty to choose from. The higher the level of difficulty, the more complex the image and the more pieces there are to put back together.

Write your own story
In this section, the child can create his own version of The Ugly Duckling. He can color the illustrations, write the text and then print it out. The pages can also be printed in black and white, allowing them to be colored in with crayons or watercolors. The story cannot be saved in your hard drive.
