Welcome to the magical world of animation!
We'll show you how to make a cartoon. You'll see how animators give life to their characters, making them laugh, cry or fly. Everything is possible in the toon world.
The starting point is a character.
This is Charlie The First

Let's imagine that we want to see Charlie walking.
The first thing that we have to do is to draw the key positions: how Charlie looks at the beginning of the sequence and at the end of it. Charlie starts to walk in 1 and ends up in 5.

Now, we have to draw the inbetween positions. The first of these will be the middle one, drawing 3. To draw it, we place drawing 1 on top of drawing 5. We'll draw the head and the body as they are in 1 and 5, but we'll draw the right foot straight on the floor, while the left foot is half way between position 1 and position 5. We also draw the left hand half way between position 1 and position 5. So, we get drawing 3.

Now, we have to draw the inbetween positions 2 and 4. We'll use the same technique we used to create drawing 3. To create position 2, we place drawing 1 on top of drawing 3, the head and the body will be the same, but the left leg will be half way between position 1 and 3. We'll do the same to create drawing 4. The left leg is moving forward, and is half way between position 3 and 5.

Now that we have the sequence of movement ready, we can color it.

Would you like to know how the engine works? |
We use a software application that allows the computer to save your colored drawings and play the whole sequence several times. This way we have created
The illusion of movement
ILLUSION?
ILLUSION? ???
